Managing Saved Passwords


This article shares resources that describe how passwords are stored on various devices and platforms, along with instructions for retrieving and managing passwords.

Browsers

This panel provides links to vendor instructions for managing passwords in their respective browsers:

  • FireFox
    • Enable/disable saved logins.

Windows Credentials

This panel provides a link to the Microsoft Support page on how to access the Credential Manager for Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Credential Manager is a secure vault that stores the credentials you've used to sign in to websites and networked computers. It gives you access to:

  • Web Credentials: Usernames and passwords for websites you've visited using browsers like Microsoft Edge.
  • Windows Credentials: Usernames and passwords for networked computers, servers, and other devices on a local network.

While Credential Manager stores your passwords, it does not display them by default.

To view a stored password, you must first select the credential you want to see, then click "show" and enter your computer's password to verify your identity.

Credential Manager also shows the last time the credential was modified.

Apple Keychain

This panel provides a link to the Apple User Guide for Keychain Access, which is the macOS app for managing your stored passwords and other secure information.

The guide provides information on:

  • How to view a stored password: You can view a password for an item after double-clicking it and selecting "Show password." You'll then be prompted to enter your keychain password to verify your identity.
  • Item details: The "Attributes" pane shows basic identifying information like the item's name and kind.
  • Certificate information: For certificates, you can view details about its trust policy and other parameters.
Mobile Devices
