Existing Employees moving to a new position within the UA:
If you are an existing employee who is moving to a new position within the university, consider the following:
Headsets are the recommended Zoom phone equipment option. All headsets are on-ear or over-ear.
Wired - Wired is the standard headset offering
Wired headsets are ideal if you usually take calls near your computer. These headsets provide reliable sound quality and are the standard offering for most users. These headsets are especially useful in environments with noise that disrupts calls, making it hard to hear or be heard clearly. They are also beneficial when privacy is a concern, such as in situations where others might overhear sensitive information.
Headsets are the recommended Zoom phone equipment option. All headsets are on-ear or over-ear.
Bluetooth (Wireless)When ordering for new employees, UITS will charge your department the cost differential between wireless and wired headsets.
Only UITS-provided handsets are authorized for use on the Zoom network. These phones require a data port connection and cannot be used with a traditional phone jack.
When to Consider a Handset Over the Zoom App
While handsets may not provide all the features of the Zoom desktop or mobile app, they offer distinct advantages in certain work environments. Handsets are beneficial for managing multiple lines, as they provide better visibility when handling more than five lines at once. They are also ideal for shared or “hotel” workspaces where multiple users need access to the same phone.
The Poly Edge E220 will be provided for free to new UA employees who also have an external license, if required, for business functions. They may not give you the full functionality of the Zoom app.
