Netid+: Enroll Using a Hardware Token (Yubikey)

Note: The YubiKey hardware token must configured for use with your computer (Windows, Mac or Linux operating system). Any Yubikey model except the FIDO U2F Security Key will work with NetID+, however these instructions are for the Yubikey 5 NFC.


Step-by-Step Instructions

NOTE: The steps below begin after you log into https://netid-plus.arizona.edu with your NetID and password.

  1. Click the Manage Your Account or Sign up for NetID+ link.
    Which one you see depends on whether or not you already have a device registered for NetID+.

  2. In the Add a Device section, locate the Hardware Token tile.

  3. Click the Add a Yubikey Hardware Token button.



    You now see the Add Yubikey Hardware Token pop-up window.

  4. Near the top of the window click the link labeled Show Instructions for Configuring your Yubikey.



  5. Click the link for the Yubico website. (The screenshot below shows where to find that link.)



  6. When the Yubikey Manager is installed, you see a screenshot like the one below. Click the link for your computer’s operating system.



  7. Once the Yubikey Manager is open, insert your Yubikey device into a USB port on your computer.

  8. In the Yubikey Manager window, click the Applications link and Select OTP from the drop-down.



  9. Under Slot 1 click  the Configure button.



  10. For Credential Type select Yubico OPT and click Next.



  11. On the line for Public ID, click the check box for Use serial.



  12. Click the Generate buttons for both Private ID and Secret Key.



  13. Copy and paste the Serial number, Private ID, and Secret Key in the NetID+ window (from step 3).

  14. The Serial Number is in parentheses at the top of the Yubikey Manager window and to the left of the Help link.



  15. Click the Finish button on the Yubikey Manager page.

  16. On the Add Yubikey Hardware Token page click the Continue button.

  17. You should now see the Success! message. Click the Close button.



To verify that your Yubikey has been added to your NetID+ devices (optional):

  1. Go to https://netid-plus.arizona.edu and click Login.

  2. If/When prompted, log in with your NetID and password.

  3. Click on Manage your Account.
    The phone you just enrolled should now show in the My Devices section.
